Removing Dead Trees

There are many reasons for removing dead trees.

First and foremost, a large dead tree on your property can be a safety hazard to your family and property. Dead trees are more easily blown over in a wind storms. This can cause damage to soffits and larger trees can do structural damage to shingles and roof support systems. Rotting or brittle limbs can snap off and break windows or harm passers by.

Falling trees may also carry a financial burden. Not just for removal but if the tree damages a neighbours property or home you may be liable for the repair to their property as well as the removal.

Many times trees die from disease. The sooner you remove the dead tree the better the chance that the disease will not spread to other trees on your property. A common Canadian disease is Dutch Elm disease. Dutch Elm disease is a fungal disease of elms. The fungus is spread by a beetle whose larvae burrow under the outer bark. The damage eventually kills the tree and can spread to surrounding like trees.

Last but not least dead trees are definitely not aesthetically pleasing. This is not an immediate removal issue but for the look of your property, especially if you are trying to sell your home, a dead tree is usually a concern if not a deal breaker.

This May long weekend will look a little different

With the Victoria Day Weekend approaching, there are still many public health restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and many businesses and services will be closed.

Unfortunately it won’t be May long weekend cottage life and camping as usual either as all National and Alberta parks are closed to visitors and Parks Canada is recommending to ‘stay home’. If you are planning on heading out, be sure to check your local area rules and regulations beforehand.

Even though our weekend dreams may be dashed, it’s important to remember that these circumstances aren’t forever. There will be many more long weekends ahead to enjoy when safe to do so, and with everyone working together to get through this, hopefully that time isn’t in the too distant future.
