Have damaged or compromised trees after the storm?

Calgary has been under a severe thunderstorm watch from Environment Canada the past few days, as weather conditions were favourable for producing heavy rain, strong winds and large hail.

Strong wind gusts can break branches off trees, cause weakly attached branches to separate and rip trees apart, and dangerously toss loose limbs. A lightning strike can pass from the trunk of the tree through the roots and dissipate in the ground often splitting a tree in half or breaking off several boughs. Hail can defoliate trees and cause damage to the outer layers of tree bark which can severely limit the tree’s ability to use nutrients.
